The second edition of the Africa Cinema Summit (ACS) kicks off today at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra.
Organized by Ghana’s National Film Authority (NFA), the event will run from October 7 to October 10 under the theme “Is Cinema Relevant in African Communities?”
This year, the summit will feature renowned British actor Idris Elba, who serves as the chairman of the IE7 & The Akuna Group, as the headline speaker.
Additionally, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, will grace the event as the Guest of Honour on October 8.
Participants will include representatives from various African nations, such as Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Angola, as well as executives from the African diaspora and investment organisations like Afreximbank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
During the summit’s launch in June, NFA CEO Juliet Asante emphasised that while Africa possesses significant cinematic talent, it remains largely underutilized.
Therefore, the ACS aims to promote collaboration, foster innovation, and encourage sustainable growth within the African film industry.
