About seven passengers are in critical condition after a robbery attack near Jamasi, close to Mampong in the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred around 2:45 am on Friday.
Armed individuals targeted passengers in various vehicles, including a VIP bus with registration number AC 7419-15 traveling from Accra to Yeji. Additionally, the robbers seized an ambulance during the attack.
The perpetrators set up a roadblock to carry out the robbery. The driver of the VIP bus recounted the terrifying experience, explaining that as he was ascending a hill, the robbers used a flashlight to signal him to stop. Believing it was a police check, he slowed down, only to fall victim to the robbery.
“One of them pointed a gun at me, insisting I stop the bus and ordered that I opened the door which I did. They entered the bus and started shooting indiscriminately. They stole parcels which were been delivered and my money,” he narrated.
Fortunately, a police escort was on board the VIP bus and engaged in a shootout with the robbers, injuring one of them. The passengers experienced injuries as the robbers fired shots through the windscreen.
Those injured are currently receiving medical attention at the Mampong Government Hospital.
