The Ministry of Roads and Highways has scheduled a meeting with the aggrieved National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union today.
The purpose of the meeting is to address the ongoing issues arising from the union’s indefinite strike, which began on Monday, June 26.
The strike was initiated due to the poor condition of roads leading to depots in Takoradi, Tema, and Kumasi, managed by the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST).
Although the government has assured that the roads will be repaired, the drivers remain steadfast in their stance, asserting that they will not resume work until the deteriorating roads are restored to a satisfactory state.
Sunday Alabi, Vice Chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union, emphasized in an interview with Citi News that the safety of their members is of utmost importance, further underlining their insistence on road improvements before returning to their posts.
“In this situation, there is nothing we can do because we are rather helping the government not to incur any debts again. But as we speak our safety is the most important, so we want to hold it in our own hands. That is why we want it to be fixed before we continue the work in this situation,” he is quoted by citinewsroom.com.
