Over 150 houses in Gomoa Mampong have been submerged after a contractor working on the Kasoa-Cape Coast Highway blocked the main bridge serving River Ayensu in the Gomoa East District.
River Ayensu, one of the largest rivers in the Central Region, originates from the Eastern Region and crosses the Kasoa-Cape Coast Highway at Gomoa Okyereko before flowing into the sea.
The contractor, aiming to build a modern bridge that can handle the river’s volume, blocked the main bridge.
In an interview with Adom News, residents reported that the river unexpectedly flooded the community around 2:30 pm today.
Currently, most houses are flooded, and the main road is at risk.
Gomoa East District NADMO Director Robert Hackman revealed that Gomoa Mampong, Gomoa Okyereko, and five other communities are in danger, urging authorities to intervene.
