The Ashanti Regional Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abass Nurudeen, has revealed that Rev. Opoku Onyina was allegedly recommended to become Bawumia’s running mate but he actually declined the offer.

According to him, the respected man of God told Bawumia he cannot associate himself with him because he has a bad reputation in the face Ghanaians.

For him, nothing can improve the lack of trust people have in Bawumia, and therefore he cannot risk working with him.

“You might recall that a pastor from the Pentecost Church, Rev. Opoku Onyina, was considered for the running mate position? However, the pastor told Bawumia, “Given the current doubts about your credibility, even if you are cleansed with the strongest detergents, it wouldn’t improve your reputation. As a man of God, I cannot associate with you and risk damaging my own integrity,” Abass Nurudeen said.

In February 10, 2024, it was alleged that Rev Opoku Onyina was going to become Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate in the upcoming 2024 election because of a photo he shared with the NPP flagbearer on social media.

However the man of God came in to state that his cryptic social media post on Saturday, February 10, 2024, had no correlation with the rumours.

Apostle Onyinah distanced himself from the political connotations of his post, following the diverse reactions to the post.

He further said, Apostle Onyinah explained that the previous post was created from the Church of Pentecost’s theme for the year 2015.

The admitted that while the timing of his post might have fed into the rumours, he did not make it with the idea to subtly confirm his association with Bawumia’s candidature.

“Very interesting. I coined my last post when we (The Church of Pentecost) adopted the theme, ‘Being a Good Steward of God in my Generation’ in 2015. I examined the man who received one talent and hid it in the ground.

“I then wrote, ‘The Lord has a reason for creating me. Burying my talent and making it redundant is doing a disservice to my family, church, nation, and world. If I fail to speak, to work, to contribute, I allow the ‘bad’ minority to rule and dictate. Often, the silence of the majority or a good one helps the noisy minority destroy society or even rule.’ It has many lessons,” he wrote.
