Renovation efforts are now underway at the Old Blocks of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), aiming to provide a comprehensive upgrade befitting its status as the second-largest Teaching Hospital in the country.
The initiative was prompted by an appeal from Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, in celebration of his 25 years of enstoolment. Notably, repairs to address long-standing roof leaks have already commenced.
During the Hospital’s 2023 Thanksgiving Service and Best Staff Awards ceremony, Prof Otchere Addai-Mensah, the Chief Executive, reflected on the achievements and challenges encountered in his almost year-long administration.
He acknowledged the tremendous support received from the Board, management, staff, and stakeholders as the hospital embarked on a transformational journey to tackle attitudinal, infrastructural, and operational challenges.
Prof Addai-Mensah expressed gratitude for the positive response to the launch of the 10-million-dollar rehabilitation fund initiated by Asantehene.
Initiatives such as the introduction of MoMo payment platforms for bill payments at patients’ bedsides have contributed to reducing corruption.
Additionally, the introduction of courier services for refill medicines and drugs across the hospital’s catchment area is a pioneering effort contributing to rational drug administration and usage.
Acknowledging the need for disciplinary measures to restore efficiency, Prof Addai-Mensah apologized to staff who may have been affected.
The occasion also celebrated 39 outstanding staff members at the Best Staff Awards ceremony, with each awardee receiving a flat-screen television, citation, and cash prizes. Dr Barnabas Asamoah was recognized as the overall Best Worker for the year, receiving a cheque for GHC20,000 and a citation.
