Paris Saint-Germain secured a 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, with Kylian Mbappe opening the scoring.
The Ligue 1 champions took control of the match with two second-half goals at Parc Des Princes. Mbappe struck in the 58th minute, followed by Bradley Barcola’s 70th-minute strike, giving PSG an aggregate advantage ahead of the return leg in March.
Sociedad nearly took the lead in the first half when Brais Mendez whipped in a free-kick that tested the PSG defence, and Andre Silva missed a close-range opportunity.
Despite Alex Remiro denying Mbappe, Sociedad had another chance with a double effort from Takefusa Kubo. The Japanese international’s powerful strike from the right side of the box missed the target.
After the break, Sociedad continued to threaten, with Mendez hitting the crossbar with a powerful strike from range.
However, PSG capitalized on their chances, with Mbappe scoring from close range just before the hour mark, assisted by Marquinhos from a Dembele corner.
Mbappe nearly added another goal, but his shot narrowly missed the right post. However, PSG secured their victory in the 69th minute when Barcola finished neatly after a skillful through ball from Fabian Ruiz.
The win gives PSG a comfortable lead heading into the second leg of the tie.
