The NDC’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, has affirmed that his running mate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, will be pivotal in steering Ghana back toward progress and prosperity.
Mahama characterized Prof. Opoku-Agyemang as a leader with exceptional cultural, scholarly, and personal attributes, including humility, compassion, and an acute sensitivity to the needs of all citizens.
He remarked, “Prof. Naana Jane is a leader who possesses high moral values, she is incorruptible, and all through her service to Ghana, she has remained committed and patriotic. She brings wisdom, tact, passion, integrity and decades of experience to the vice-presidential office,” he explained.
Mahama made these comments during a visit to the Central Regional House of Chiefs on July 30, 2024, as reported by 3news.com.
Mahama lauded Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s achievements, noting that she led transformative changes in Ghana’s education sector, providing valuable opportunities for many young people.
As Minister of Education, she oversaw the construction of more than 2,000 school projects across the country, including new classrooms, teacher housing, and school furniture.
Her initiatives significantly reduced the number of schools operating under trees and improved learning environments.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also introduced the progressively free education system in alignment with Ghana’s 1992 constitution, established the E-Block Community Day Secondary Schools, and worked to eliminate the shift system at the basic school level.
In her remarks, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang pledged to work diligently to ensure an NDC victory in the upcoming elections.
The President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Odeefo Amoakwa Buadu VIII, praised Mahama for choosing a local candidate as his running mate and urged the party to focus on regional development if successful in the December 7 elections.
