The parents of Shalimar Abbiusi, the 30-year-old Belgian woman renowned as the spokesperson for “The New Force,” are accusing the government of kidnapping their daughter.
The claim comes after her arrest by the National Investigations Bureau, formerly the BNI, on charges related to immigration offenses.
A video circulated on social media, shared by “The New Force,” features Abbiusi’s tearful parents pleading for her release. In the video, her mother asserts, “They kidnapped my daughter; she did nothing wrong,” while the apparent father emphasizes, “She is not a criminal… the government should give my daughter back.”
Contrarily, the Ghana Immigration Service, according to a GhanaWeb report presents a different narrative.
Alleged official statements from the Immigration Service indicate that Abbiusi’s arrest follows an ongoing inquiry into her immigration status. The Service took notice of her activities, particularly her role with “The New Force,” prompting an invitation to address concerns about her immigration status.
Investigations uncovered that Abbiusi arrived in Ghana on September 4, 2017, through Kotoka International Airport, claiming residency as a student at the Ghana Christian University College until 2018.
However, the college confirmed she was never enrolled, and her residence permit application documents were deemed forged.
In light of these revelations, Abbiusi faces charges related to immigration offenses. She has been arraigned before the court and remanded into Immigration custody pending further legal investigations.
The case sheds light on the complexity of immigration issues and the scrutiny faced by public figures in such matters.
