Chidimma Adetshina, a 23-year-old pageant hopeful who recently withdrew from the Miss South Africa competition amidst a controversy over her nationality, has accepted an invitation to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria.
In a video shared on Instagram, Ms. Adetshina expressed her excitement about joining the prestigious Nigerian pageant, saying she looks forward to the opportunity.
Her withdrawal from Miss South Africa came after intense scrutiny over her eligibility, despite being a South African citizen.
Questions arose due to her father being Nigerian and her mother having Mozambican roots, leading to an investigation by South Africa’s Home Affairs department.
The department is still pursuing legal advice and considering charges related to possible identity fraud concerning her citizenship.
Miss Universe Nigeria reached out to Ms. Adetshina, emphasizing that her journey in pageantry is far from over and offering her a chance to represent Nigeria on the international stage.
It remains unclear if she holds Nigerian nationality.
Meanwhile, Mia le Roux was crowned Miss South Africa last Saturday, making history as the first deaf woman to win the title.
If Ms. Adetshina triumphs in Miss Universe Nigeria, she will compete against Ms. Le Roux at the Miss Universe pageant in November.
