Over 30,000 people have died in Gaza – Health ministry headed by Hamas

Over 30,000 Palestinians have died in Gaza since 7 October, according to the health ministry run by Hamas.

The number is about 1. 3% of the 2. 3 million people who live there. It shows how many people have been hurt by the war.

The government says most of the people who died were women and children. It doesn’t separate between civilians and fighters when counting the people who were killed.

The ministry said that 81 people died in the past day, and the total number of deaths is now 30,035.

The number of people who have died is probably much higher because the count doesn’t include those who haven’t gone to the hospital. This includes thousands of people who are still trapped under collapsed buildings from Israeli air strikes.

Over 70,000 people have been injured in Gaza, according to the health ministry. The United Nations and other global groups use its information.

The World Health Organization works closely with the health organization in Gaza and it is good at collecting and analyzing data. The UN agency thinks the previous reports are believable and well written.

The WHO says that more civilians, including children and women, are being killed in Gaza now compared to past conflicts.

Israel’s military told the BBC that about 10,000 terrorists have been killed, but did not give specific numbers for civilian and fighter casualties.

For a Palestinian death to be recorded in Gaza, the hospital staff or medical workers must see the body or remains. Every day, hospitals send a list of all the people who got hurt or died to the Ministry of Health. The list has their names, ID numbers, when they got hurt or died, and what injuries they have. Its workers are now located in Rafah.

The Palestinian Red Crescent also gives information.

During the war, it has been very hard to report the numbers because there are too many dead bodies in the morgues, fighting near hospitals and clinics, and not good internet and phone service.

But, if a longer ceasefire is agreed or the war ends, finding and identifying the bodies of the missing people will help us know how many people were killed, including how many soldiers were killed. The UN, rights groups, and Israeli military will likely each do their own investigations.

People are saying that the current numbers don’t show how Palestinians were killed. They want to know if it was from Israeli air strikes, artillery shelling, or other ways like Palestinians’ rockets not working correctly. All the people who got hurt are being called victims of “Israeli aggression” right now.

Lately, the Gaza Ministry of Health has reported more cases of what the World Health Organization (WHO) calls “indirect mortality” – which means people dying because of the war but not directly from the fighting.

On Wednesday, it was reported that six children had died from not having enough water and food at hospitals in northern Gaza. Two people were at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City and four people were at the Kamal Adwan Hospital in the town of Beit Lahia.

The UN is saying that a lot of people in Gaza don’t have enough food to eat and are getting very sick. There isn’t enough medicine or medical help for them.

The fighting started when many Hamas fighters attacked southern Israel on October 7th. They killed around 1,200 people and took 253 hostages. This is according to the counts by Israel.
