Accomplished Ghanaian musician, Rex Omar (Rex Kwame Owusu Marfo), mourns the loss of his mother, Madam Grace Adwoa Duodowaa, also known as O’Gray, who passed away on January 4, 2024.
The family, along with the music icon, is preparing for the One-Week Observance scheduled for this Saturday, January 27, 2024, at The Page, located off the Kaneshie-Mallam Road at 8 am.
Born on January 2, 1947, to Opanin Kwasi Boakye and Maama Afia Anane of Asante Bɛkwai Abɔdɔm and Asɔkɔre, O’Gray was the fourth child among five siblings.
She initiated her educational journey at the Asɔkɔre Methodist Primary in 1952, completing Middle School with the (MSLC) in 1962.
Following her Middle School education, Madam Duodowaa pursued design and dressmaking in Kumasi, where she met and married Medical Practitioner Mr. Emmanuel Rexford Owusu Ansah in 1964.
O’Gray, a devoted Christian and strict disciplinarian, raised eight children, six boys and two girls.
Notably, her firstborn, Rex Kwame Owusu Marfo (Rex Omar), born on February 6, 1965, has risen to prominence as an award-winning musician and currently serves as the Chairman for the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO).
Madam Duodowaa’s legacy extends beyond her family, impacting her community through her dressmaking business.
Her commitment to instilling Christian values in her children is evident, as one of her offspring, Rev. Osei Asibey, has become a Pastor.
Despite health challenges that led to a decline in her business, O’Gray’s influence continues to resonate, leaving an indelible mark on her children, including Akwasi Osei Bonsu, Eno Mary, Isaac Boakye, and Antwi Rockson.
The One-Week Observance stands as a testament to the enduring impact of Madam Grace Adwoa Duodowaa’s life.
