National Sports Authority (NSA) refuted allegations of leasing the Borteyman Sports Complex for religious purposes, emphasizing instead that the event held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, was organized as an educational tour for students.

According to the NSA’s latest statement, the visit was arranged by student bodies from the University of Ghana, the University of Professional Studies, and Valley View University, in collaboration with their respective student representative councils (SRCs).

The purpose of the tour was to familiarize students with the facilities at the Borteyman Sports Complex.

Furthermore, the NSA clarified that the itinerary included a presentation by an unnamed Deputy Minister, contributing to the educational aspect of the tour.

“A letter sent to us stated that “the SRC of the University of Ghana, University of Professional Studies, Valley View University, and other institutions requested a special visitation to the Borteyman Sports Complex as part of a tour of the newest attraction in Accra”.

They intended to tour the facilities at the venue,” the statement read.

“A church was supposed to provide transportation for the students, and subsequently, a Deputy Minister was scheduled to give them a lecture on leadership. Therefore, they were granted access to the hall for this purpose.”

The NSA’s statement comes in reaction to a supposed church service video shared by Sports Journalist Fentuo Tahiro with the caption: “Borteyman Sports Complex is now a church. That didn’t take long.”

The Borteyman Sports Complex features extensive facilities designed to accommodate a range of sporting activities. Among its offerings are a state-of-the-art swimming arena equipped with a 1,000-seat capacity.

This includes a primary 10-lane competition pool alongside an auxiliary eight-lane warm-up pool.

Moreover, the complex houses a versatile multipurpose sports hall that can host up to 1,000 spectators. This flexible space accommodates diverse sports such as basketball, badminton, netball, table tennis, and weightlifting.

In addition to these amenities, there is a temporary 500-seat dome suitable for handball, volleyball, judo, karate, taekwondo, fencing, and arm-wrestling.

The venue also boasts a comprehensive five-court tennis complex, featuring a prominent 1,000-seat center court.
