A former Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kweku Boahen, has criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position.
During a panel discussion on UTV’s Adekye Nsroma on November 2, 2023, he expressed the NDC’s willingness to celebrate with a grand feast if Bawumia secures the NPP’s flagbearer slot.
Boahen described the vice president as the “weakest candidate” among the four contenders and argued that he falls short in comparison to NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
“Can he even speak now? When he was campaigning, could he list a single thing he could do as a president?
“Have you seen him engage with the media, or is he avoiding questions from the media? If Bawumia wins, we will celebrate because he is the candidate we want.
“He is the least qualified person to compete with John Mahama, which is why he has resorted to tribal politics in the north,” Boahen stated.
Bawumia is competing for the flagbearer position alongside three other contenders, including Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.
The NPP has scheduled November 4, 2023, to select a successor to President Akufo-Addo as the leader of the party.
