North Korea fired “several” short-range ballistic missiles – Japan

North Korea launched a few missiles toward the sea on Monday. South Korea’s military is upset and says it is a serious threat to stability in the region.

The Japanese government warned and its coast guard reported that North Korea had launched what seemed to be a missile. NHK broadcaster said the projectile seemed to have landed outside the area that belongs only to Japan.

The military in South Korea said that North Korea fired some short-range ballistic missiles from near its capital, Pyongyang. The missiles traveled 300 kilometers (186 miles) and landed in the ocean.

The US Indo-Pacific Command said on Monday that they knew about the missile launch. They also said that they don’t think it’s a danger to US people, land, or friends.

South Korea said its top military leader met with the commander of US Space Command to talk about North Korea’s satellite development and its military cooperation with Russia.

After a meeting between the leaders of the two countries in September, people think North Korea gave weapons and ammunition to Russia for its attack on Ukraine. But both North Korea and Russia say this isn’t true.

The North is getting ready to send another spy satellite into space, following the successful launch of a reconnaissance satellite in November.

Last week, North Korea said they launched a special cruise missile to test a big warhead, and a new missile to shoot down aircraft.

In April, North Korea launched a new type of missile called a hypersonic missile. This is part of their plan to develop more powerful missiles, and their leader, Kim Jong Un, is in charge of this.

“Professor Leif-Eric Easley from Ewha University in Seoul said that North Korea is focusing on developing weapons quickly, not only to gain a military advantage but also to show off its political power. ”

The North has ignored a ban by the United Nations Security Council on making ballistic missiles, saying that the Council’s rules interfere with its right to protect itself.

Last month, Russia said no to renewing the sanctions against North Korea. US and South Korean officials blamed Russia for making North Korea more confident. China did not vote for or against the decision in the Security Council.

Russia and China wanted to make the sanctions against North Korea to be renewed every year, but they were not successful.
