New Force spokesperson, Shalimar Abbiussi, has been granted bail in the tune of GHc20,000 by the Kaneshie District Court.
This follows her detention by the police over claims that she breached Ghana’s immigration laws.
According to reports, she obtained a student permit by false declaration.
Shalimar, a 30-year-old Belgian has appeared in a series of videos of the New Force, advocating on their behalf.
In one of the videos, she underscored the hardships experienced by Ghanaians under the current administration led by President Akufo-Addo, stressing on recent demonstrations to buttress her point.
In another video sighted by The Independent Ghana, Shalimar was also voicing concerns over billboards belonging to the New Force that have been vandalised.
Fast forward, reports came in that she has been arrested.
In the latest development Shalimar has been charged with obtaining a student permit by false declaration and granted bail with two sureties to be justified, during court proceedings on Monday, December 11, 2023.
Background
Shalimar Abbiusi, is alleged to have violated section 52 (1) (i) of the Immigration Act 2000 (Act 573), specifically for “Obtaining a Student Permit by False Declaration.”
The legal action against her was initiated by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) on December 6, 2023.
GIS accused her of falsely declaring herself as a student of the Ghana Christian University College on or before September 23, 2023, in the Greater Accra Region, with the intention to evade legal requirements.
The accusation further contends that Abbiusi knowingly made a false declaration, leading to the successful acquisition of a student permit with the number 0088754.
Her arrest took place after she was invited by the Head of the National Enforcement Section at the Immigration Headquarters to address concerns about her immigration status in Ghana.
