On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang was officially presented by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the running mate to former President John Dramani Mahama for the 2024 presidential election.
The event, held at the UPSA Auditorium in Accra, also featured the running mate delivering her acceptance speech following her nomination.
During her address, which lasted for hours, the running mate expressed gratitude to Mr. Mahama for choosing her for the second time running.
Her speech, described by many as a significant improvement in her political communication compared to four years ago, saw Prof. Opoku-Agyemang delivering direct criticism at the government on various issues, including corruption, the economy, and governance.
Her address has elicited varied reactions on social media, with members and sympathizers of the NDC praising her performance. In contrast, members of the governing New Patriotic Party have sought to downplay the overall impact of her address and her candidature.
Despite the differing opinions, several critics and political neutrals, including the founding president and CEO of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, have given Prof. Opoku-Agyemang high marks for her performance during the event.
