Netizens join GFA, Blacks Stars and Newcastle celebrate late Christian Atsu’s birthday

Messages and tributes from the football world are commemorating Christian Atsu on what would have been his 32nd birthday, reflecting on the theme “gone but not forgotten.”

The former Newcastle winger tragically lost his life in a devastating earthquake that struck parts of Turkey and Syria in February 2023.

Ghana honoured Atsu with a state funeral on March 17, 2023, drawing thousands from diverse backgrounds to pay their respects. As he trends on Twitter for his 32nd birthday, Newcastle, the Black Stars, and various football teams join in tributes and celebrations in memory of Christian Atsu.

A post by Newcastle reads, “Remembering Christian Atsu on his birthday. We miss you, Christian.”.

The official page of the Black Stars shared a video collection of Christian Atsu’s best moments in the national team colours, which climaxed by the 2015 AFCON, where he won triple awards.

“ In our hearts forever. Happy heavenly birthday, Christian Atsu. Your legacy with the #BlackStars lives on and we cherish the memories you gifted us.”

As the Black Stars embark on their journey to Ivory Coast for the 2023 AFCON, the players aim to pay tribute to the memory of Christian Atsu through stellar performances.

The Black Stars’ opening match in the tournament, against Cape Verde, is scheduled at the Felix Houphet Boigny Stadium at 8:00 p.m. Ghana time (20:00 GMT).

In the subsequent fixture, fans anticipate an exciting duel, possibly between Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah and West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus.

On January 18, 2024, at exactly 8:00 p.m. (20:00 GMT), Egypt and Ghana will clash in the second Group B game, held at the Felix Houphet Boigny Stadium.

Ghana’s final group stage encounter takes place on January 22, 2024, against Mozambique at the Olympic Stadium of Obimpe, starting at 8:00 pm Ghana time (20:00 GMT).
