Ghana’s politics is one of the most sensitive areas of our lives. Everything related to politics, political parties, or political figures, can spark outrage on various platforms and even in real life.
As elections approach, it is quite normal for people to set in with their predictions on who deserves the presidential seat for the next term of office. This talk of presidential elections normally settles on either the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Even though there are many other political parties in the country, these two are the people’s favourite.
In the bid to satisfy our curiosity before the real and actual general elections in December 2020, a popular Ghanaian Twitter user and influencer, Kalyjay, conducted an anticipatory virtual election poll in which 34,767 Twitter users took part.
The poll was meant to determine the likely winner for the 2020 elections. The voters’ options were NPP, NDC, any other party, and independent candidate.
At the end of the poll, the final results indicated the following percentages:
NPP – 39%
NDC – 46%
Any other party – 8%
Independent candidate – 7%
It is true that this is not the total number of voters in Ghana. And perhaps there were even unregistered and underaged people who took part in this poll since Twitter is open to all. This is obviously not meant as an official declaration of whoever will win. This was certainly for fun.
But Ghanaians have shown their stance. And going by this poll, NDC will win the 2020 elections.
Well, now my question to you.
Is this how you see events unfolding? Or do you have an opposing view?
