The Ghana Police Service arrested three individuals, including Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu Senya East, on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
The arrests took place at Ofaakor near Kasoa in the Central Region for unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Okunnor, along with Mustapha Mohammed and Abdul Aziz Musah, was apprehended in a Honda CRV with registration number GX-2044-19.
The arrest occurred near the Electoral Commission’s office at Ofaakor, where authorities found a pump-action gun and four rounds of ammunition in the vehicle. The trio is currently assisting the police with their investigations.
This arrest followed a violent incident at the Electoral Commission’s office in Kasoa, which injured four people. The conflict, involving NDC and New Patriotic Party (NPP) members, began around 5 am over voter transfer procedures.
Ato Koomson, son of the incumbent MP Mavis Hawa Koomson, was critically injured and is now at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. Additionally, three NDC members were injured and are receiving treatment at the Kasoa Polyclinic.
