NDC is sponsoring Democracy Hub demo, don’t be deceived – Gideon Boako

Gideon Boako, spokesperson for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has warned the public against being misled by what he perceives as a covert effort by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stir discontent towards the government following the recent Democracy Hub protest.

Boako claimed that while the demonstration focused on illegal mining (galamsey), it serves a deeper political agenda aimed at destabilizing the current administration. During an interview with Peace FM on September 27, he emphasized that the timing of the protest occurring just months before the elections—suggests an intention to sway public opinion against the government for political gain.

He argued that although the issue of illegal mining is indeed serious, the NDC’s participation indicates motives beyond genuine environmental concern. Instead of utilizing protests to undermine the government, Boako urged stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions to collaboratively tackle the problem.

He cautioned citizens to remain vigilant about political figures who mask their true agendas under social or environmental pretenses, asserting that such strategies only create division and hinder progress in addressing the nation’s challenges.

“Don’t be deceived by the NDC’s latent attempt to hide behind those protesters to cause public disaffection to the government. They are politically motivated to do anything to get a back name for the government to achieve their political agenda.”

“Perish the thought should NDC come to power, should NDC come to power, all these guys leading the demonstration will have appointments in government.”
