The spouse of the deceased member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team has confessed to the killing of her husband.
According to police sources, the deceased’s wife has admitted to stabbing her husband, although she claims it was not with the intention to kill.
Osei Yaw Akoto was discovered in a pool of blood at his residence and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the Mampong Government Hospital.
The couple, along with their three children, had been residing in a three-bedroom house in Kofi Sarpong, a suburb of Mampong in the Ashanti Region, for nearly a year.
Local residents have revealed that the couple had been experiencing frequent conflicts and arguments lately.
“I often hear them fighting on top of their voice whenever I’m passing by. The husband is the quiet type when he is not drunk, but when he is intoxicated – something he often does – he insults and beats the wife. Though this is known to us, I couldn’t believe it when I heard this morning that Abigail had stabbed Akoto to death. It’s really shocking”, a resident, Ama Nsiah disclosed.
“The party is very shocked, and we are in a dark moment as at now. Akoto was a branch youth organiser and a communication team member, and he worked tirelessly for the party. We were even expecting him to deliver more as we approach the December 7 elections, but he left us painfully”, Mampong NDC Constituency Secretary, Hudu Yahaya Mumuni said.
At the Mampong Constituency office of the National Democratic Congress, party members and executives are grappling with the sudden loss of their colleague, who appeared lively just the previous night.
They praised Akoto’s dedication to party activities in the Constituency.
The Mampong Police have initiated an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the stabbing and death of the 40-year-old.
Meanwhile, the wife, Abigail, remains in police custody, and Akoto’s body has been transferred to the morgue at the Mampong Government Hospital for autopsy.
