The Ashanti regional Secretariat of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has opted out of participating in the forthcoming Ejisu Constituency by-election slated for April 30, 2024.
Following the demise of John Ampontuah Kumah, the Member of Parliament for the area under the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), on March 7, 2024, after a brief illness, preparations are in progress within the NPP to select a new candidate for the by-election as scheduled by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Nevertheless, Mr. Isham Alhassan, the Ashanti regional Organiser of the NDC, informed Class91.3FM’s Elisha Adarkwah that the regional secretariat has resolved against participating in the electoral contest.
Citing concerns such as the misuse of resources, among others, he explained that the party’s decision not to contest is driven by a greater focus on the upcoming December general elections.
