The National Communication Authority (NCA) has taken action to close down four radio stations in Bawku, located in the Upper East Region, Bawku FM, Source FM, Zahra FM, and Gumah FM are among the affected media outlets.
The NCA, in a statement issued on Saturday, February 24, explained that the decision was made based on the recommendation and advice of both the Upper East Regional Security Council and the National Security Ministry.
The statement highlighted the pivotal role played by the FM stations and their presenters in contributing to the escalation of the Bawku conflict, resulting in the loss of lives and property in the area.
The NCA assured the public of its commitment to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in fulfilling its legal mandate.
The statement emphasised the need for all stakeholders to adhere to the regulations governing the communications industry, as the NCA works towards maintaining order and security in the region.
