The Ashanti youth organisers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have moved to dispel rumors surrounding their alleged endorsement of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as a potential running mate for the party.
In a statement, they clarified that the claims do not accurately reflect the sentiments of the majority of youth organisers in the Ashanti Region.
They emphasized adherence to democratic processes within the NPP, highlighting Article 12 (b) of the party’s Constitution, which vests the selection of the vice-presidential candidate in the presidential candidate, in consultation with the National Council.
Asserting their commitment to democratic principles, the organisers emphasized that it is not within their mandate to exert undue influence on such decisions.
They stressed the importance of considering qualities such as humility, respect, national appeal, and widespread popularity in selecting a vice-presidential candidate to ensure maximum support from party members and the Ghanaian populace.
The press statement, signed by various youth organisers, emphasized unity and collective support for the party’s leadership as they deliberate on selecting a suitable vice-presidential candidate.
They urged party members to uphold democratic values and prepare for the upcoming elections with unity and solidarity.
