Sharone Lifschitz, the daughter of 85-year-old Yocheved Lifschitz, explained to the BBC that her mother was taken by Hamas from the Nir Oz Kibbutz on October 7 and released recently. She said her mother faced some challenges, but she remained strong and resilient throughout the ordeal.
She mentioned that her mother, who is a peace activist, told her that she still feels connected to the people in Gaza who are in hiding. She also said that she is slowly beginning to understand her surroundings and what has occurred, but it is difficult for her to fully grasp the situation because it is so overwhelming.
But she also says her mother wants to “give hope” to the families of the other hostages, telling them that as hostages they were taken care of and their injuries were being treated by medical staff, and they were not being harmed.
Lifschitz says that her mother’s incredible positivity helped her get through this difficult experience.
Lifschitz’s dad is still being kept prisoner by Hamas. He spent his whole life supporting peace, according to her.
He wanted both countries to live peacefully next to each other and worked hard for that. She believes that you should make peace with your enemies. She hopes he is okay and can use his Arabic language skills to talk to the people there. She also hopes he receives medical treatment.
