My gov’t will work tirelessly to develop social housing that is affordable – Mahama

Former President and current flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has announced his intention to make the passage of the Rent Control Bill a top priority should he be elected in the forthcoming elections.

This commitment aims to alleviate the financial pressures on tenants by prohibiting the advance payment of more than one year’s rent.

In a Facebook post on Friday, June 28, Mahama highlighted his dedication to addressing the housing challenges faced by Ghanaians.

He underscored the significance of providing affordable and accessible social housing as a fundamental part of his vision for Ghana’s future.

Expressing his solidarity with the 19 million renters in Ghana, Mahama emphasized his understanding of their struggles. He pledged that his administration would work tirelessly to improve housing conditions and ensure that social housing is within reach for the average Ghanaian. “Housing is a crucial need, and my government will work tirelessly to develop SOCIAL HOUSING that is truly affordable and accessible for ordinary Ghanaians. That will be one of my legacies as President,” he wrote.

Mahama reiterated his commitment to pushing for the Rent Control Bill, which aims to protect tenants from the undue burden of paying excessive rent advances. “We will also push for the Rent Control Bill to be passed into law to prevent tenants from being unfairly burdened with paying more than one year’s rent in advance,” he stated.

The former president expressed his deep empathy for the millions of renters in Ghana and his commitment to building a brighter future for all citizens, with housing playing a pivotal role.

“I deeply empathise with the 19 million people in Ghana who are renting and committed to building a brighter future for all Ghanaians, with housing being a pivotal aspect of that,” he posted.
