My endorsement of NDC was voluntary – KOD

Ghanaian media personality and fashion icon Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) recently clarified that his endorsement of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the upcoming December 7 elections was entirely voluntary and without financial compensation.

In an August 10, 2024, interview with Joy FM, KOD explained that his support for former President John Mahama stems from a strong belief in his leadership, despite the challenges Mahama faced during his previous term, including the severe power crisis known as “dumsor.”

KOD expressed confidence in Mahama’s ability to address the current issues facing the country if given another opportunity to lead.

“I was not invited by anyone to endorse President Mahama. I showed up,” KOD emphasized. “In the past, people have been paid to do this. I did not get paid a dime. And if it’s something I have to do a billion times, I’ll do it without thinking twice.”

Reflecting on the nation’s situation, KOD questioned why Mahama shouldn’t be allowed to continue the work he started.

Although KOD had previously declared support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in late 2023, his views shifted due to dissatisfaction with President Akufo-Addo’s administration, which he described as one of the most turbulent periods in Ghana’s history.

KOD acknowledged Mahama’s efforts in resolving the power crisis before leaving office and believes that Mahama, rather than the NPP, is better positioned to make a positive impact on the country.
