Gisela Amponsah, a well-known Ghanaian influencer and former Miss Malaika contestant, recently opened up about her troubled relationship with her biological father.
In a candid conversation on the Rants, Bants, and Confession podcast, Gisela did not hold back as she shared her deep-seated issues with him.
When asked by panelist Efia Odo about her relationship with her father, Gisela expressed strong negative feelings. “I really don’t want to discuss him because I don’t want to give him any attention,” she said. “I have never respected him. My respect and love are entirely reserved for my mother, but as for my father, I consider him irrelevant. He’s like a demon to me. My distrust in men, including the term ‘men are trash,’ can be traced back to him.”
Gisela revealed that her father’s dislike for her has been a constant throughout her life.
She recounted an incident when she informed him of her admission to the University of Ghana, only to be met with indifference.
“I told him about my university admission, and his response was to question why I was telling him. It’s clear he has no interest in my life. He doesn’t even remember my age or the challenges I face.”
Adding to her frustration, Gisela noted that her father is supportive of her younger brother, even providing financial support and a place to stay. “I’m his eldest child, yet he neglects me completely,” she said.
When Efia Odo suggested that her father might not be her biological dad, Gisela firmly denied this, asserting, “He is my real father.”
Efia Odo then asked if Gisela’s mother had shared any insights into her father’s behavior. Gisela explained that despite being the first child, her father has always shown favoritism towards her step-siblings and has only recently begun to interact with her brother. She recounted a childhood memory where her father would pick up her step-siblings from school but would leave her and her brother behind.
Gisela concluded by noting that the last time she saw her father was during her senior high school years. “He visits Ghana regularly, but he never reaches out to me. We have our separate lives now,” she said.
