The son of renowned Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho Aguirre has been accused of killing and dismembering a man in Thailand and is facing murder charges.
In a Thai court on Monday, Daniel Sancho Bronchalo, 29, entered a plea of guilty to the murder of Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, 44.
Last week, Koh Phangan, an island in the south of Thailand, has a landfill where pieces of Arrieta’s body were found by police.
According to Mr. Sancho, Arrieta held him “hostage” because she was fixated on him.
According to local media, the YouTube chef went to a police station in Koh Phangan on Thursday to report that Colombian surgeon Arrieta was gone. Popular beach resort Koh Phangan is well-known for its wild “full moon” celebrations.
Mr. Sancho submitted the report soon after trash collectors found human remains that morning; additional human remains were found at the same location the following day.
Police identified the remains as those of Arrieta through DNA testing. When questioned once more on Friday, Mr. Sancho acknowledged killing the man.
On Sunday, he allegedly dumped the victim’s dismembered body parts in plastic bags at seven different locations, leading police there.
According to local media, investigations revealed that Mr. Sancho had purchased a knife, rubber gloves, and a bottle of cleaning solution among other items last Tuesday, prompting police to believe that he had made preparations to kill Arrieta.
Mr. Sancho comes from a distinguished Spanish acting family. His grandfather was the late actor Félix ngel Sancho Gracia, and his mother is the actress Silvia Bronchalo.
In a statement posted on Sunday, Mr. Sancho’s family pleaded for “maximum respect, both for Daniel Sancho himself and for the whole family, in these delicate moments of maximum confusion.”
He has been refused bail and is presently being kept in a prison on the island of Koh Samui as authorities look into the murder, which they claim was premeditated.
Arrieta’s remaining remains are still being sought after.
