On Sunday, May 5, 2024, a fierce fire tore through Saban Park in Chorkor Chemuena, within the Greater Accra Region, wreaking havoc on numerous structures while residents attended church services.
Prompt intervention by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) prevented the flames from engulfing nearby residences. Firefighters from Korle Bu fire station and Accra City, Makola, were summoned to contain the inferno.
The blaze ravaged several ‘chamber and hall’ self-contained homes, leaving destruction in its wake.
While the cause of the fire remains undetermined, eyewitnesses speculate it could have stemmed from an electrical malfunction.
