A well-known Nigerian comedian and actor, John Ikechukwu Okafor, better known as Mr. Ibu, has described a horrifying incident that nearly cost him his life.

The seasoned actor admitted that he had naively assisted someone who had afterward repaid him with wickedness by poisoning his food.

Speaking to the Nigerian-based The Punch Newspaper, Mr. Ibu hinted that he is now extremely cautious about the people he contacts as a result of this painful and upsetting experience.

“These days, I am usually sceptical because I later found out that it was somebody I had helped in the past (who poisoned me),” he stated.

The situation according to the actor would have been a deadly one, “If not for God, the result would have been bad. As I speak with you now, I am still being treated somewhere in Guzape, Abuja.”

With a fearful heart, the actor pleaded with the Nigerian Federal Government to prioritize the lives and well-being of creative arts players, because they contribute significantly to the Republic’s socioeconomic growth.

He added, “I expect the Federal Government to act on this. Whether we like it or not, we (actors) are serving the government. The movies we make are for the benefit of the general public. If the government wants to better protect us, they can do it.”
