The Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC) has made a significant stride in enhancing the country’s mining capabilities with the procurement and commissioning of the Multi-Power Discovery II Diamond Core Drill Rig.
Commissioned by George Mireku Duker, the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources responsible for Mines, this state-of-the-art rig is designed for both diamond core and reverse circulation drilling, marking a crucial advancement in mineral resource estimation methodologies.
During the commissioning ceremony held on April 5th, 2024, Deputy Minister Mireku Duker highlighted the rig’s importance, calling it a major milestone for GIISDEC and the nation’s mining sector.
He emphasised its potential to revolutionise mineral exploration and extraction, particularly in identifying areas suitable for small-scale mining operations.
“The drill rig’s capabilities extend beyond iron ore; it serves as a versatile tool for various geological investigations, including geotechnical site assessments for national construction projects.”
Mireku Duker further elaborated on the rig’s versatility, stating its capabilities extend beyond iron ore exploration to encompass various geological investigations and geotechnical assessments crucial for national construction projects.
