A miner in New Edubiase, Ashanti Region, is assessing his damages after falling victim to a GH¢98,000 gold fraud by a fellow worker.
The accuser, Simon Nyarko, also a miner from Tarkwa – Akyempim, reported to authorities that he and Emmanuel Opoku, a resident of New Edubiase, have conducted business together for the past two years.
As stated by the complainant in a police report seen by MyNewsGh.com, both departed from Tarkwa-Akyempim on a motorcycle and halted at Dunkwa Junction to vend a portion of gold, netting GH¢98,000.00 from the transaction.
He entrusted the specified amount to the suspect for safekeeping in his bag, and they proceeded to New Edubiase, the suspect’s hometown, for him to introduce the complainant to his relatives.
En route, the complainant relinquished control of his motorcycle to the suspect for driving, as he was unfamiliar with the route.
Upon arrival in New Edubiase, the suspect left the motorcycle parked outside a particular house in Asamenya, a neighborhood of New Edubiase, instructing the complainant to wait while he retrieved his key from his spouse, but he never returned.
The suspect absconded with the motorcycle, the funds, and the complainant’s cellphone.
Despite exhaustive attempts to locate the suspect, they were unsuccessful, prompting the complainant to file an official report with law enforcement.
Authorities state that they are actively pursuing the suspect to aid in their inquiries.
