Ghanaian rapper Medikal has donated chairs, tables, and other educational items to a primary school in Accra where pupils were sitting on stones during lessons.
Medikal’s generous contribution, which included educational materials, dispensary items, and sanitary supplies, was made to the Oduman Asuaba M/A Basic School in the GA South District.
This act of kindness followed the viral spread of photos shared by famous Ghanaian blogger Kobby Kyei, highlighting the poor conditions of the school.
Medikal, fresh from his sold-out Indigo O2 concert in the UK on May 3, 2024, personally delivered the items and participated in painting the classroom walls alongside his manager, Kofi Jam, and the school staff.
The rapper expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and explained that the distressing images of students sitting on stones, which he saw online on May 16, 2024, motivated him to take action.
“Seeing the future leaders of our country sitting on stones and bare floors to study, I felt the need to pick up a call and show love in the little way I could. So, as I stand here, I brought 40 chairs and tables so the kids can sit down and learn and be great leaders in the future. We all know how hardship is in this country, but then again, we find ways and means to still strive and survive,” Medikal stated.
Additionally, Medikal pledged to ensure the smooth operation of the school’s facilities and promised to fix the toilets, a commitment that was met with loud cheers from the school’s pupils and staff.
Kobby Kyei’s post on X, which brought attention to the poor state of the school, played a crucial role in prompting this much-needed intervention.
