Ipswich Town announced on Thursday that Kieran McKenna has agreed to a four-year contract extension with the club.

Under McKenna’s guidance, Ipswich achieved promotion to the Premier League for the first time since 2002, securing consecutive promotions since his appointment in 2021.

Despite reported interest from managerial positions at Chelsea, Brighton, and Manchester United, the 38-year-old has opted to remain committed to Portman Road.

“I am extremely proud to have signed a new contract with the club,” McKenna said.

“We have enjoyed incredible success together over the last two seasons and I’m excited to have the opportunity and responsibility of leading this fantastic club into its first season in the Premier League in 22 years.

“Preparation and planning for the challenge ahead has been ongoing since we won promotion at the beginning of May, with plenty of work still to do before the start of the new season at what is such an exciting time for everyone at the club.

“I am so happy to have committed my future to taking the next step with Ipswich Town and am really excited for what’s ahead as we continue this journey together.”

Beginning his coaching journey as the under-18s coach at Tottenham, the former midfielder transitioned to the same role at Manchester United in August 2016.

He then advanced to Jose Mourinho’s backroom staff with the first team in preparation for the 2018 season.

Despite Mourinho’s departure in the early stages of that campaign, Ole Gunnar Solskjær retained him on his coaching staff until late 2021.
