There is widespread celebration throughout Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, following the announcement of Mathew Opoku Prempeh popularly referred to as NAPO as the NPP’s running mate.
Residents across Kumasi and its surrounding areas, while non-political, enthusiastically embrace the selection of their beloved political figure, Napo, to join Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on the ticket for the 2024 election.
The streets and local gathering spots in Kumasi were filled with jubilation, with many expressing overwhelming positivity and approval of the Energy Minister and Manhyia Royal as the running mate.
People from neighborhoods like Patasi, Odeneho Kwadado, Manhyia, Bantama, Danyame, Santasi, Suame, Atonsu, Asokwa, Ahodwo, Asafo, and others eagerly anticipate Napo’s official nomination.
They view Bawumia and Napo’s partnership as a top priority for Asanteman in the coming months.
According to reports, the mood in Manhyia South Constituency mirrors the excitement seen throughout Kumasi.
The Punch newspaper reported that ahead of his nomination, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh personally sought blessings and support from nearly all chiefs and queen mothers in the region for the responsibilities ahead.
While Napo’s father remains apolitical, he is said to have laid groundwork for his son’s emergence, including discussions with chiefs across Asanteman and neighboring regions.
An internal memo regarding Napo’s selection indicates that the 2024 election will be the first in Ghana where chiefs and traditional influencers in the Ashanti Region will take a keen interest due to Napo’s candidacy.
