Mason Greenwood is set to make a
return to Manchester United, and the club is poised to entrust their new sporting director with the responsibility of determining his future.

In September 2023, Manchester United permitted the 22-year-old forward to go on loan to La Liga side Getafe.

This loan agreement has been extended until the conclusion of the season, showcasing Greenwood’s impressive performances in Spain and subsequently attracting interest from clubs such as Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Initially, when Greenwood bid farewell to Old Trafford, it seemed he had no future at Manchester United.

His last appearance for the Premier League giants was just before his arrest in January 2022 on charges of attempted rape, assault, and coercive control. However, these charges were dropped in February 2023, allowing Greenwood to resume his professional career.

Despite his legal clearance, there has been no reintegration for him at Manchester United.

According to Fabrizo Romano, a decision regarding the winger’s long-term future will be deferred until the Red Devils appoint a new sporting director.

Romano has told GIVEMESPORT, with Jadon Sancho also set to return to England from a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund: “At the end of the season, they will have Sancho and Greenwood returning.

With those players, Man Utd and INEOS want a new sporting director to make a decision and be responsible for what they decide to do with these two players.

“So, it’s early, and I think for Greenwood, nothing will be decided now or in February or March. I think it’s something that they will probably discuss in May or June.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe faces crucial decisions behind the scenes at Old Trafford after securing a 25 percent stake in United.

Significant personnel changes are on the horizon, with United expressing interest in recruiting Dan Ashworth from Newcastle as their new sporting director.

Additionally, Omar Berrada is poised to assume the role of CEO after being lured away from Manchester City.
