During the 2024 Youth Week celebrations at the Assemblies of God Cedar Mountain Chapel in Accra, Nanahemaa Nana Adwoa Awindor, a well-known Ghanaian media personality and former host of ‘Greetings from Abroad,’ shared insightful advice on choosing a life partner.
She emphasized the value of humor in relationships, suggesting that a partner who can share laughter and joy with you is crucial.
“I would advise the young ones to marry somebody who can be your friend. Someone who would like to laugh with you, smile with you, cry with you, or joke with you. Very importantly, joke with you!” she emphasized.
Awindor explained that humor helps ease tension in a marriage, noting that in Ghanaian culture, joking about serious matters can diffuse stress and strengthen relationships.
“In Ghana, one thing that has helped us is that we joke about everything, including serious issues. And because we joke about these things, we soften the tension. That should be part of our lives as a family, as a couple,” she added.
She encouraged young people to seek partners who are supportive and willing to grow alongside them, highlighting the importance of mutual accommodation and shared enthusiasm.
“You should look out for somebody who can accommodate you, who is ready to come halfway to meet your needs, to meet your excitement, and who is ready to support you as you grow,” she said.
