Manhyia warns political parties to desist from campaigns near palace and historic sites

The office of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has issued a stern warning to political parties and their supporters, urging them to refrain from bringing their campaigns and associated materials near the Manhyia Palace and significant Asante heritage sites.

In an interview on Opemsuo Radio, a palace spokesperson cautioned that serious repercussions would befall any individual or political group that ignores this directive.

“Let’s all listen to this announcement carefully because if you defy this caution, you will be invited. Yesterday, leaders met and everyone was tasked to send out the message to all the political parties and, by extension, the entire nation. You have the right to splash your posters wherever, but places like the Airport Roundabout are off limits… it is disrespectful to go and hang party colours around the effigy of Okomfo Anokye or our Queen Mother; it is disrespectful,” he said.

As Ghana approaches the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, political parties are intensifying efforts to boost their presence nationwide by displaying posters, billboards, and flags.

However, this surge in campaign materials has resulted in the defacement of numerous public and private properties, sparking widespread concerns.

Recently, a photo surfaced on social media, showing the statue of Okomfo Anokye adorned in the colors of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
