Antony’s tenure at Manchester United has fallen short of expectations, prompting Sir Jim Ratcliffe to consider selling the underperforming Brazilian winger as part of a significant overhaul.
Despite joining the club from Ajax for a hefty £86 million fee in the summer of 2022, Antony has struggled to make a significant impact, tallying just nine goals in 70 appearances.
With his playing time dwindling in recent weeks, Ratcliffe, now in charge of United’s football operations, is orchestrating a major revamp of the squad’s transfer strategy, aiming to offload up to ten players, including Antony.
However, the club is unlikely to recoup anywhere near the initial £86 million investment, with reports suggesting they may struggle to even secure half of that amount.
Despite having over three years remaining on his contract, Antony has fallen out of favour under manager Erik ten Hag.
The United boss recently warned Antony over his form. Asked why Omari Forson started over the Brazilian against Fulham, the Dutchman replied: “It had nothing to do with fitness. He is fit but we have many options on the right side where we lack other positions due to injuries.
“The form Antony is in we have all have seen and he has to step up. I see it in training, but also Omari [Forson], Amad Diallo and Garnacho deserve to play.”
