Manchester United had maintained a conspicuous silence following accusations of domestic violence made against Antony by his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, in June.
The club had refrained from issuing any formal statements, even after Cavallin provided additional details about the player’s alleged misconduct, which included threats to eject her from a moving vehicle, causing injuries such as cutting her finger and striking her breast implant.
The club finally released a statement on their official website on Wednesday. It read: “Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony and notes that the Police are conducting inquiries.
“Pending further information, the club will make no further comments. As a club, we are taking this matter seriously, with consideration of the impact that these allegations and subsequent reporting will have on survivors of abuse.”
In two different declarations, Antony has refuted the charges of assault.
