A man from County Armagh has been found guilty of taking part in a robbery where an Irish police officer was fatally shot.

James Flynn, who is 32 years old, has been declared guilty of unlawfully entering a house and taking the keys to a car. This car was then used in a robbery where weapons were involved.

A police officer named Adrian Donohoe was killed when he got shot at a credit union in Lordship, County Louth on January 25, 2013.
Garda Donohoe, who was 41 years old, was married and had two young kids.

He was one of two detectives working late at night. They were taking money to the rural credit union when the robbery happened.

During his trial for murder, it was revealed that the building’s staff were getting ready to leave with the money they had earned that day when a group of men came up to them and stole from them.

Garda Donohoe was shot in the head and died right away.

Actively conspired means actively working together secretly.

On Monday, Flynn was found guilty of planning with Brady and others to enter a house in Clogherhead, two days before the robbery and murder, in order to steal the keys of a Volkswagen Passatt.

Later on, the car was used to escape from a crime scene.

Mr Justice Tony Hunt said that Flynn worked together with two friends to break into a house and hide the car for criminal purposes.

He was not declared guilty of stealing €7,000 (£6,000) from the Credit Union.

A second man named Brendan Treanor, 34, who used to live in Emer Terrace, Castletown Road in Dundalk, County Louth, was found innocent of both accusations.

The court found out that Treanor is part of a criminal group, but there is no clear evidence connecting him directly to the place where the crime happened.
The judge determined that the CCTV footage showed Flynn being more involved in the situation than Brendan Treanor.

The court believed that Flynn had lied about where he was during the robbery.

The court said that Flynn was part of the gang that committed the robbery.

But it wasn’t certain that he was one of the four men involved in the robbery, and there was not enough clear evidence connecting him to the crime.

Mr Justice Hunt said that ultimately, we cannot be certain if he was present at the location or just involved with the gang. Therefore, we have no choice but to declare him not guilty of this accusation.

The judge decided to keep Flynn in jail until his sentencing, which will happen on November 13th.
