Kyle Walker has disclosed that he came very “close” to leaving Manchester City for Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window.
However, he has now decided to remain at the Etihad Stadium after receiving a new contract offer from City.
The 33-year-old defender is on the verge of signing an extension that will tie him to the club until 2026.
Following City’s 5-1 victory over Fulham on Saturday, Walker was asked about how close he had come to making the move to Bayern.
“It was close,” the England international said. “It was close but in football, things can happen. Decisions can be made. Things can turn around.
“It wasn’t meant to be.
“Would I have enjoyed the experience? Of course I would have done so. But this club is a great club and you can’t underestimate what this club has done in the last six or seven years.”
