A horrifying incident has shaken the community of Devegodo in the Shime area of Anloga District, as a man in his early 40s, identified as Maxwell Dzormatsi, was brutally butchered to death on his own farm.
The gruesome attack, which occurred on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, has left the community reeling with shock and grief.
Eyewitnesses recount that the tragic event unfolded around noon, as two individuals trespassed onto Dzormatsi’s farm to fish in a pond he had constructed.
Upon discovering the unauthorized intrusion onto his property, Dzormatsi confronted the intruders in an attempt to halt their activities.
However, the situation quickly turned violent when one of the trespassers pursued and viciously attacked Dzormatsi with a cutlass, inflicting fatal wounds.
Efforts to save Dzormatsi’s life were made as onlookers and one of the perpetrators rushed him to the Adutor Clinic for urgent medical attention.
Tragically, despite these efforts, Dzormatsi succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the clinic.
Mr. Joseph Kwabla Kpattah, the Presiding Member of the Anloga District Assembly, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and appealed to the public for assistance in apprehending the suspect, who is currently evading law enforcement.
“This was a truly tragic incident that has left our entire community in mourning. We urge anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect to come forward and assist us in ensuring that justice is served,” Mr. Kpattah pleaded.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Maxwell Dzormatsi, assuring them that every effort would be made to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice.
“On behalf of the Anloga District Assembly and the entire community, we extend our sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. Rest assured, we are committed to ensuring that those responsible for this heinous act are held accountable under the law,” he stated emphatically.
Authorities have confirmed the incident, with police sources indicating that Dzormatsi’s body has been transferred to the morgue at Keta Hospital. Maxwell Dzormatsi leaves behind a grieving wife and four children, further amplifying the sense of loss and devastation felt by his loved ones and the community at large.
