False preachers have a larger following – Oheema Mercy

Gospel star Ohemaa Mercy expressed concern over the lack of discernment among Christians during an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

Addressing Romeo’s observation that some church leaders’ sermons are unprofitable, Ohemaa Mercy agreed, stating that if believers truly have the spirit of God within them, they would be warned through discernment when encountering deceptive preaching.

She lamented that many Christians find themselves in the wrong places, attracted to preachers who spread falsehoods yet command large followings.

“If indeed the spirit of God is within you as you sit in the chapel listening to the preacher’s lies and deception, he [the spirit] will warn you through the discernment spirit and tell you that you’re at the wrong place,” she added.

Ohemaa Mercy attributed this troubling trend to a misplaced faith in religious leaders rather than in God.

She criticized the phenomenon of personality worship among Christians and the abuse of power by some religious leaders. Highlighting extreme examples, she condemned the practice of treating bodily fluids from religious leaders as sacred.

“We are constantly lied to because we feel that God is the person standing there. We believe in man more than God,” she said, perplexed that even bodily fluids like “urine” and “spittle” from religious leaders are considered hallowed by some.

“Some will collect the spittle and apply it on themselves because they see the person as God,” Ohemaa Mercy bemoaned, strongly warning: “Be very careful!”

“Mind what you are doing because you are on slippery ground,” she cautioned.

She urged believers to be cautious and mindful, warning them about the dangers of misplaced trust.

Despite the concerning behavior, she encouraged her audience to focus on developing a personal relationship with God rather than seeking out human intermediaries.

The singer stressed that God is always accessible and responsive to genuine prayers, emphasizing that the problem lies in believers not being close to Him.

“There’s a God who answers prayer in the twinkling of an eye. The only issue is you are not friends with him, and so you see him so far away. You have now thought to yourself that he is in humans, so you have also put your trust in humans,” the Ote Me Mu hitmaker admonished.

She expressed disbelief at the miraculous claims made by some deceitful preachers, such as promising to heal decapitation, and prayed for God’s mercy.

In her concluding remarks, Ohemaa Mercy urged Christians to redirect their faith and efforts toward God instead of relying on fallible human leaders.

“I plead for the mercy of God,” the humanitarian and Edin Jesus hitmaker prayed.
