Losing my job not my concern – Erik ten Hag after 3-0 loss to Tottenham

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has stated he isn’t worried about losing his job, despite a crushing 3-0 loss to Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Although Bruno Fernandes was shown a red card in the first half, United struggled throughout the match, even before being reduced to 10 men.

With just three wins from their opening eight matches this season, the defeat is expected to add more scrutiny to Ten Hag’s position at the helm.

Asked whether he is concerned his United bosses could look to change the manager, Ten Hag said: “I am not thinking about this.

“We made the decision from a clear review [in the summer] what we have to improve and how we want to construct a squad, but we knew it would take some time. We need some time. We are all on one page or in one boat together. The ownership, the staff, and the players as well. I don’t have that concern.”

Erik ten Hag expressed frustration over the manner in which Manchester United conceded during their 1-1 Europa League draw against FC Twente on Wednesday.

Bart van Rooij effortlessly cut through United’s midfield to score, a mistake that was mirrored just days later when Spurs defender Micky van de Ven made a similar run, leading to Tottenham’s early goal in the opening three minutes.

Despite these back-to-back defensive lapses, Ten Hag remains confident that his squad is still paying attention to his instructions, though his annoyance at conceding such goals twice in a short span was evident.

“Yes, I am,” he said.

“But it is clear and obvious when you concede a goal like this again; it shouldn’t happen, especially when we address it so loudly and clearly.”

It won’t get any easier for Ten Hag with United facing tough trips to FC Porto and Aston Villa this week.

The game at Villa Park on Sunday is United’s last before the international break, and another poor performance will ramp up the calls for Ten Hag to be dismissed.

“There is always a new game,” he said.

“It will be a new day, and it is also obvious you have to learn as a team. It can’t happen twice in four days that a defender can dribble through the whole team. You can’t make such mistakes in football.”
