Leader and founder of the New Force Movement, also known as Cheddar, Nana Kwame Bediako, came under serious public scrutinity and attack after his remarks of allegedly dredging the sea to Kumasi.
Even though some groups such as the Organised Labour supported his ‘vision’ many Ghanaians still live in disbelief of his ability to dredge a sea to the landlocked Kumasi.
In light of this, the New Force leader has come clear on his comments explaining to Peace FM’s Kwame Sefa Kayi on Kokrokoo morning Show on May 28, 2024 during an interview.
He explained that his mention of Ashanti Region is as a result of what he calls the region’s ‘problem’ with water and as an ardent believer of industrialization and large scale business which is mostly aided by the sea(Water) dredging in Kumasi would give access to the region.
His comments according to him was a means to create awareness and enlighten Ghanaians on the ‘good’ hidden in some water bodies and the need to take advantage of them.
“What I said was dredging, and this thing every country has done some before. If you want to increase in purification, farming you dredge.
There are so many things water does. What I am trying to make Ghanaians understand is, of all the water bodies we have in Ghana, none of them has ever been connected, never used before.
So that was the awareness I was trying to create that we need to start dredging out water for irrigation, purification others to aid industrialization. I only used Asante Region as a case because we don’t have a sea.
The goal is to bring speed by utilizing our water and not to dredge for us to go to the beach and have fun” he stated.
