Kotoko are not ready for CAF inter-club competitions- Pollack

Asante Kotoko former coach Steve Pollack believes the club is not ready to participate in the Caf inter-club competitions, amid the team’s petition to Ghana football’s Normalisation Committee for clearance to play in Africa.

The Porcupine Warriors officially petitioned the committee this week to rescind the decision agreed upon by club representatives not to allow any Ghanaian side to participate in either the Caf Champions League or the Caf Confederation Cup.

The Briton is worried that lack of competitive games in Ghana following the suspension of the topflight will expose his former side.

“I know Kotoko have signed new players and some have also left after my departure. They may be thinking that these are signs of readiness to participate in Caf inter-club competitions but I disagree,” Polack told Kumasi FM.

“At the moment, Kotoko are not playing any competitive games or high-profile friendlies with foreign clubs every week in and out so they are not adequately prepared.

“I believe they must take a second look at their decision because you can’t only use friendly games to prepare for such competitions that demands a lot of work,” he added.

Polack led Kotoko to the 2017-18 Confederation Cup but were eliminated in the first round by Congolese side CARA Brazzaville who went on to reach the quarterfinals.
