Korle Bu fixes faulty elevator at surgical department after NDC’s Akandoh’s visit

Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has successfully repaired the faulty elevator in its surgical department.

This development came shortly after a visit from the Minority in Parliament, who had come to investigate the lack of maintenance on the elevator by the hospital and the Ministry of Health.

Following the visit, the hospital promptly announced on its Facebook page that the elevator was now operational, and all surgical services had resumed.

“The elevator at the Surgical Department has been fixed today and it is now working,” the Facebook post read.

On August 26, KBTH announced the suspension of elective surgeries and temporary relocation of emergency cases.

According to KBTH, the suspension and relocation were necessary because there have been ongoing issues with the use of lifts at the surgical block.

The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital recently dealt with significant disruptions due to malfunctioning elevators in its surgical department.

These issues particularly impacted elective surgeries and the movement of emergency cases.

The situation attracted public scrutiny when MP Kwabena Mintah Akandoh visited the hospital and issued a 24-hour ultimatum for repairs.

The hospital management responded promptly, fixing the elevators and confirming their full operational status.

Despite rumors, the hospital clarified that emergency surgeries continued, albeit with temporary relocations within the facility.
